QuestionI have several variegated lace cap hydrangeas in my garden that were in bloom when I purchased them. However, they haven't bloomed since I brought them home.
Is there a specific fertilizer I can use to produce some flowers next year?
Thank you!
Anne
AnswerAnne,
If you are cutting off the old wood from your Hydrangeas this could be the reason for them not producing blooms.I have had sooo many questions about Hydrangeas and this is the most asked.I myself made the mistake of cutting off my old branches. It seems the buds form on the OLD branches, not the new ones.Me being excessively tidy and trimming everything up sort of backfired on me.So from now on I am telling everyone that asks about the absence of blooms on their Hydrangeas...DO NOT cut off the old branches.
If you want more info go to www.google.com or www.ask.com and type in a direct search for "lace cap Hydrangeas no bloom" or "Why won't my Hydrangeas bloom?".You will come up with tons of info.
About the fertilizer. If you do not see any form of flower bud whatsoever by mid July/early August then chances are it is not going to bloom no matter what you fertilize it with.If you do see some buds or small flowers you can boost them with Miracle Gro Bloom Booster. This will bring them out faster.
Hope this has been helpful to you.
