tom,
i stopped at our local plant nursery today, and saw a plant that i absolutely love. However, the place i was at got it from a different nursery and they have no idea what it is. I will try my best to describe it..it was a very deep red viney plant, the leaves were very feathery and fine, almost looked like they would be picky to the touch, but in fact were very soft. I know that isn't much to go on, but it was gorgeous and have never seen one like it. I want to plant it between low growing evergreens in our retainer wall, if only i can find out what it is !
thanks
vicky

Hi Vicky,
Thanx for your question. I have struggled and struggled with this question. I don't know how I can possibly answer it. First of all, I receive questions from all over the world. I have no idea if you are in the U.S., Canada, Australia, U.K., South Africa, New Zealand, Israel, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, India or wherever else there is a large number of people who speak English. I'm sorry. There is no way, try as hard as I may, for me to guess what type of plant you have. Send me a pic! I wish I could work magic but I'm just a simple plant grower with a little bit of botany in his background. If you would like to send me more details such as how long the leaves are, how tall the plant is, what color the blossoms are, how many petals the blossom has, what shape the blossom has, etc. You see? There are so many variables and if you are in Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Europe, Canada? I'm in Kansas in the middle of the U.S. I have some tropical, sub-tropical experience having lived in Hawaii, Florida, Texas, Arizona and California. I wish I could answer your question, but, it is too vague. I'm sorry.
Tom k TOM HERE MAY BE A BETTER DESCRIPTION FOR YOU! i AM FROM WISCONSIN....ACTUALLY LOOKED LIKE A MARIJUANA LEAF PLANT BEING FINE A PRICKLY, BUT RED AND NO IM NOT INTO POT SMOKING! BUT THE LEAF REMINDED ME OF THAT FINE , DEEP RED, AND SOFT FEELING, BUT LOOKING AT IT LOOKED LIKE IT WOULD BE VERY PICKY..... MY NEXT THING IS TO GO BACK A JUST GRAB AN END OFF AND TAKE IT SOMEWHERE THAT MIGHT KNOW! BUT THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE

AnswerHi Vicky,
Thanx for getting back to me. There are several types of plants that have leaves that look like cannabis (marijuana). Aralia is one genus of plants and these are tropical or subtropical and would not survive the winter in Wisconsin. Another plant is amaranths but these are usually annuals. Amaranths tend to be red but would have leaves as you describe. Any other clues you might have to offer?
thx,
Tom
