QuestionHullo Tom! I live in Toronto and am having trouble with my hydrangeas. I have have a mix of pink and blue mophead types that seem to crash during the day (blooms shrivel) and then come back in the evening. This cylcle is repeating to the point where I think the blooms are so stressed, they are going to fall off! They are in a partly shaded area with about 3-4 hours of direct sun. Are they not planted deeply enough? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you - Ben
AnswerHi Ben,
Thanx for your question. I'll bet it's pretty warm there right now. Is the soil uniformly moist (not soggy)? The afternoon heat can make hydrangeas appear to wilt only to recover when the weather cools in the evening. Make sure they get plenty of water and feed them some Miracid which is like Miracle Grow only it has the necessary acidity in it that hydrangeas like. How long have the hydrangeas been in this spot and how deeply are they planted? I hope this helps.
Tom
