Calla Lilly planting preference

Question

-------------------------
Thanks Tom....I guess cuttings was not the correct term since my friend dug up the plants with a big dirt ball around them.  I will plant these on the east side of my house.  THANKS SO MUCH!

Question -
Dear Tom,

A friend just gave me cuttings from her Calla Lillies.  Since I have never grown this plant, I would like to know the best exposure for the plants. I live in Chico, CA and my home faces due north.
Your help is appreciated.

Answer -
Hi D,
Thanx for your question.  Callas are propagated from corms or cormlets which are small growths attached to the parent corm.  When you say cuttings I'm not sure what you mean.  Is there a corm mass included?  I'm asking because I've never heard of callas growing from cuttings.  Callas like some direct sunlight however, if you live in an area that gets very hot in the summer, they will benefit from some afternoon shade.  Keep them uniformly moist and don't let them dry out.  An eastern or southern exposure is best.  I hope this helps.

Answer
Hi,
Thanx for the feedback.  I wasn't trying to be curt.  I thought I'd better check it out so I could give you the best answer.  Good luck with your plants and be sure and dig up the corms after the first frost.  They are only hardy to zone 8.  Don't wash the corms off.  Just gently rub any excess dirt off and place them in a cool, dark, dry, frost-free area in your basement of back porch.  Plant again in the spring after the last frost.  I hope this helps.
Tom
