Hydranga blooms

Question
I have had a blue hydranga bush for 5-6 years that I bought at a nursery.  It grows great and looks beautiful and healthy but it gets no flowers on it. What can I do?  It is planted on the Southwest corner of my house where the eaves spout drains so that it stays moist and gets some sun. Help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Tami,
Thanx for your question.  If you are pruning the tree before it blooms (like in the early spring  or anytime before blooms are to appear, you are cutting off the buds without realizing it.  Is the bush big and unruly?  It is okay to prune it back in the fall but then don't touch it after that.  In the spring, buy some Miracid and follow the directions on the box.  The plant just may need some food.  Miracid is made by the same people who make Miracle Grow and you can find it at Walmart and DIY stores.  I hope this helps.
Tom
