QuestionHello,
I purchased and planted a cala lilie 2 years ago and from all appearances it died. Only two leaves (and no blossom) grew and then it whitered away shortly (within a few months). For some reason, I continued to water the spot where it was planted and to my surprise 2 years later it began to grow and bloom! Of course I have long thrown away the description card of the type of cala lilie it is. Now my concern is that it grows about 12" tall and begins to arc (bend back toward the ground), the bloom stays in tact. Is this the nature of the cala lilie? Or does this lilie need feeding? The bloom is fushia in color and small compared to other lilies I seen BUT it is beautiful!
AnswerHi Deborah,
Thanx for your question. Calla blooms often bend toward the ground once they are fully developed. If the plant is in a shaded area, the plant may not be as strong as is needed in order to make strong foliage. Obviously, you live in the South where you don't have to dig up the corm when winter comes. In order to get stronger foliage, the plant will need some consistent sunlight but if you're in the South not sunlight all day long. About 6 hours should be enough. Feeding will only increase green growth however a little bonemeal should be helpful for the flower. I hope this helps.
