QuestionI just purchased this lovely plant from Lowe's here in Missouri. What is the coldest tempt this plant can survive in. I want to plant it in my yard, but if it can't survive the winter, I'll keep it in a large pot and use it like an annual plant. Thanks
AnswerHi Suellen,
Thanx for your question. Plant the alstroemeria in a pot that you can bring into a cool but not freezing basement before the first frost. The plant doesn't tolerate freezing but you'll need to allow it to go dormant for the winter. That means place the pot in a cool, darky, dry section of your garage or basement. Water only when it gets completely dried out. Bring it back outdoors into a shaded area after the last frost for 7 days and then put it in direct sunlight for the summer but keep it watered well but not soggy. I hope this helps.
