QuestionI live in Iowa. At my grandparents farm they have a lot of hollyhaucks. Can I dig up some small plants and replant them in my yard? Or should I wait to get the seeds and plant them in the fall or spring.
thanks,
Cathy
AnswerHi Cathy,
Thanx for your question. Many hollyhocks are biennials. That means they grow foliage the first year and then bloom the second year, go to seed and die. I would dig up some small plants and take seeds to ensure I get a blooming plant next year. Also, some hollyhocks are short-lived perennials. They will survive 3-5 years before dying. They are easily propagated from seed and they self-seed very well. I hope this helps.
