QuestionI have one Lupine "Russell's Hybrid Mix" plant, which does beautifully in my Boise, ID garden. It gets seed pods each year, and I want to know if I can grow more plants from these, and, if so, how? Our summer's average 80 - 100 degrees, and we get snow with most winter days in the 30 - 40 degree range. Can I expect a mixture of colors if these seeds produce, or just the same color as my current plant, which is a dark salmony-purple color -- very beautiful.
Thanks,
Lynne
AnswerHi Lynne,
Thanx for your question. The seeds will probably result in plants that look similar to your parent plant and you may have some that look nothing at all like the parent plant. It probably won't result in the array of colors you see on the seed packet. Plant the seeds in the spring right after the last frost as deep as the seed is long. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. The snow isn't the problem it's the hot summers. Your plants will probably go dormant during the heat and come back in the spring. I hope this helps.
