QuestionAfter my day lillies bloomed a bulb appears on the plant where flowers have been. Can I plant these bulbs to start more day lillies. If so, how do I do this. If not, what are these small bulb like things. Thank you.
AnswerHi Anne,
The bulbs you describe are seed pods. Allow the seed pods to turn yellow or brown and then pull them off of the plant before they pop open. Plant them either in pots indoors under 40-watt shop lights or plant them in situ (directly in the ground). They will germinate quickly at 70-80 degrees F in 10-14 days. Don't start fresh seed until 6 weeks before the last frost.
I hope this helps.
Tom
