Question
I have a row of 7 hostas planted along the sidewalk.  I am going to put some coral bells in front of the hostas.  How many hostas plants should I plant and how should they be arranged, straight row or how?  Should I do all the same coral bell plants?

I would really have to see the way your sidewalk is in relation to your house and other beds in order to tell you where to place them. If you want to line a straight sidewalk,you wouldn't have to move the Hostas,but you could plant the Coral Bells on the other side of the hostas away from the sidewalk because more than likely there is not enough room to plant the Coral Bells between the Hosta and the sidewalk.
