Dear Tom
Please could you tell me if it's possible to grow a plant from from part of the original plant (i.e. take a branch and plant it).
Please also let me know if there is a particular piece that grows best.
I thank you for your help in advance

Hi Angela,
You're going to have to be more specific. I have grown many a plant from the parent plant. Provide me with a specific plant name and I will give you tailor-made instructions.
thx,

AnswerHi Angela,
Thanx for the additional information. Take stem cuttings about 6-8 inches long that are green and semi-woody from the main branch of the azalea. Strip off all of the leaves except for the last 2 or 3. Did the cut end into some rooting hormone such as Rootone (available at most nurseries) and stick this end in some soil less mix about 1 inch deep and keep it moist but not soggy. Place the pot inside a clear, plastic baggie and keep it humid and warm (75 F). Rooting will take place in about 8 weeks. YOu should be able to see the roots by digging around gently with a pencil and looking for long white thready roots. I hope this helps.
