saucer magnolia tree

Question
I live near Ottawa area Canada. I planted this saucer magnolia in my backyard.  I put it in the sun but have a micro climate being between 2 barns.  I have very rocky ground living near the St. Lawrence River.  When I planted it I forgot to break up the roots.  I used bone meal fertilizer to help it.  I wonder if I did not make a hole big enough.  Question I find that the leaves are dryier and a lttle wrinkle like.  could this be not enough water... It has rained lots but..Should I dig around the plant again making the hole bigger and add new dirt ? I was told it should live in my area and cost me $170 !   Thank You for your time and concideration in reading all this.  Happy Gardening !

Answer
Mark,
Actually your zone isn't even on my map. Of course that is because I only have a US map for planting zones. You must be in a really cold zone I would think since you are much further North so I really can't give you an opiniion as to if the Saucer Magnolia will take your climate. But I have some links that you can just copy and paste into your browser and hit enter. This will give you more info on how to grow them and in what soil conditions as well as cold climate tolerance/
Here are some links for you. Hope all goes well because I know how pricey they can be and I know you would hate to lose it.They are gorgeous trees! Good luck to you.
