Just Starting out!! Help!

Question
I'm just starting to plant seeds, but I need to know what type would be most feesable for me.  I live in Virginia, so the weather is warm enough, and I can take as much time as needed to take care of it, so I was wondering what plant might be the best idea for me. Thank you for your help and I am looking forward to your answer.

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
Thanx for your question.  Most perennials grown from seed will not bloom this year.  They usually require two seasons to begin blooming.  The following are easy to grow from seed.

Purple Coneflower, Hollyhocks, Aster, Poppies, Oenothera/Missouri Primrose, Hibiscus, Rose of Sharon, Dianthus, Coreopsis, Butterfly Weed, Achillea/yarrow and shasta daisy.  These are amongst the easiest but most of the perennial seed you see in the stores germinate fairly easily they just generally take two years to bloom.  Yes, it's a good time to start your seeds outdoors but don't wait too long.  Seedlings must be well-developed at least 45 days before the first frost in the fall or they won't make it through the winter.  I hope this helps.
Tom
