QuestionI want a perennial for Northeast Florida that will grow in a partially shaded area. I'd like a plant that will spread and grow to approximately 10 to 24 inches high. Any ideas?
Thank you.
AnswerHi Carol,
Thanx for your question. Years ago, I lived in Northwest Florida in Ft. Walton Beach. Here's a list of some plants that would do well in partial shade 10-24 inches:
dayflower (commelina)
hosta (best choice and there are white, pink and purple flowering varieties not to mention the thousands of variations of leaf coloring)
pentas (will not tolerate frost)
Mexican heather (will not tolerate frost)
blue phlox
caladiums (will not tolerate frost)
bleeding heart (beautiful, white, pink and fern leafed but goes completely dormant once temperatures are consistently above 80 degrees)
ferns
columbines (beautiful colors and varieties and the foliage looks great after the blooming has stopped.)
I hope this helps.
Tom
