QuestionI have been given 3 hybiscus that a friend did not want to winter over. They are in pots. I know absolutly nothing about how to care for these plants. Do they stop blooming, loose their leaves, come in a double variety or all of the above? I usually have no trouble growing almost anything, but these have me stumped. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thx, Jeanie
P.S. Do these get cut back or is new growth on old wood?
AnswerHi Jeanie,
Thanx for your questions. If your friend doesn't want to winter over the hibiscus I am going to assume they are the tropical variety. They will not stop blooming but the blooming will decrease if you bring them indoors because the sunlight level will have drastically dropped. No problem. The plant will go into a semi-hibernation meaning, it will drop leaves, slow down the blooming and look not so healthy. Don't over water and don't fertilize it at all. Just make sure it gets as much light as it can get. If your plants are singles, they won't change into doubles. That is a genetic thing. I hope this answers all of your questions.
thx,
Tom
