QuestionHello Sijka,
I saw a flower I'd never seen before in an English garden earlier this year. It's beautiful and I'd like to know what it is. Each flower was on a single long smooth stem. The leaves were rather thick and waxy, rather small and with lots of serrations. There was only a single layer of petals, and it looked as if when the petals fell off that it left a round pod behind at the top of the stem. The pods have a flat ribbed part, like a cap sitting on top, what used to be the center of the flower. The color of the leaves, stems and pods is a slightly greyish light green. The flower petals were pink. I have a very nice photo of the flower but don't know how to attach it here.
Can you help me with just this poor description?
Regards,
Liz Gillis
AnswerLiz,
It could be a type of anenome. Take the picture to your county extension office, there is usually a Master Gardener there one of the days of the week.
Or...go to a big book store and find the Flower Encyclopedia and just start looking--I've done that many times!
