QuestionI planted some hostas about 5 weeks ago. One of them has what looks like flowers growing from the middle and those are about twice as tall as the hosta. Is it better to cut those off or is it just a matter of what I think looks better? Also why is this particular hosta flowering and the others aren't since they were planted at the same time? Thank's for your time.
AnswerHi, Joe,
There are over 250 different varieties of hosta and each has it's own flower. Some bloom in early summer and others wait until the fall. You should let the flower bloom (yes, no matter how it looks to you) and when it is finished, you may cut that stem off. This bloom is part of the cycle of a hostas life and it helps in its propogation.
