I have had a wisteria for 3 or 4 years. The plant grows vigorously, completely covering the arbor it is planted next to, however, it has never bloomed. Is there a secret to getting wisteria to bloom?
Answer -
Hi Greg,
Thanx for your question. There are a number of reasons why the Wisteria isn't blooming. Are you fertilizing? If so, stop! Most fertilizers will only increase the green growth resulting in no blooms. Are you pruning? You should only prune a flowering shrub or vine after the blooming period. Because you have had no blooms yet, you need to be careful how much you trim off. Blooms come off of new growth. Now, there is a catch-22. If the vine is allowed to grow too vigorously, this could contribute to no blooming. Let me know you state and county (if you are in Canada or the U.K., I need the city and province/county) and I will put you in touch with a local expert. I hope this helps.
