QuestionHi I don't know if this is a bit of a blond question, but can you plant winter flowering clematis and winter flowering heather in the garden in the winter or is it likely to die? I would prefer to plant it in winter as it is easier to tell where to put it when your spring/summer/autumn plants have died back.
Many thanks
Jo
AnswerHi JO,
Thanx for your question. Flowering clematis are native to the Mediterranean and will not tolerate hard frosts. If you live in Florida, South Texas, Southern California or other frost free or mild frost areas of the U.S. plant the plants as late as late fall. Don't plant if you anticipate hard frosts. The roots must not freeze. If you don't get frost then it's not a problem planting in the winter. I hope this helps.
