QuestionIs it okay to plant prairie dropseed and little bluestem grasses over a septic bed? I know that roots need to be fairly shallow to not cause problems. Also, my soil is sandy. Do I need to add organic matter or can I just stick to prairie grasses and wildflowers that are suitable for sandy soils?
AnswerHi Valerie,
Thanx for your question. Most grasses will not cause a problem with septic beds. Usually, it is trees and shrubs because their roots go so deep and are so large. I doubt if the prairie grasses will be a problem. Check with your local county extension agent to be sure. If you don't know who that is give me your state and county and I will provide you with a contact. I hope this helps.
