QuestionI am looking for a very specific peony that is very new to the retail market. I don't know the "name" of it! I don't know where I can buy it! I want it really bad!
I saw the peony at Hollingsworth Peony Farm in Maryville, MO a year ago. They have used this other grower's plant to develop their own for market. I don't want their developed plant because the flowers are not as fragrant or as "double". They do not market the other, and are apparantly not "happy" to share who does or what it is called.
The peony I am looking for is a double or semi-double flowering Itoh type peony. It is a cross between the Japanese tree peony and our traditional garden herbacious peonies. It is canary yellow in color. It is very heavily fragrant. I think it would be a mid-season bloomer, but I am not certain of this. A year ago Hollingsworths were selling their yellow herbacious peony for around $125 a plant. The other grower's plants were supposedly much more expensive, and I think they told me around $250 a plant.
I found a similar plant at White Flower Farms, but it did not seem as heavily petaled and did not list as being highly fragrant (or fragrant at all) and it was beyond what I am willing to spend at $475 a plant!
I think I have seen this plant in a catalog last year, but I cannot remember what catalog.
My question is along the line of "help, do you know what I am looking for, where to get it, etc."? Thanks for any help you could offer.
Mari
