QuestionMy Wisconsin cabin is about 20-25 feet from the lake. The shore line is rip-rapped with rocks to keep it from eroding, but on windy ways, some water does spash on the shore.
The area is mostly shade, with just dappled sun.
I need to plant perennials which will thrive here.
I surely would appreciate any assistance you will give to me.
Thank you.
Jo
AnswerEven though these plants say they are for only sunny areas-I have had good luck with these in shadier areas.
Not even a question about the spring:
Crocus
Creeping phlox (3") a ground cover
Grape hyacinth (6")
Regular hyacinth (10-12" and very fragrant)
Daffodils-12-14" and there are dozens of color combinations)
Tulips- (12-16") and in a great variety of size and color
Partial sun and shade:
Crocus
Grape hyacinth
Candytuft
And on into summer (listed in no particular order)
Iris
hosta-there are now 228 different varieties--Magnificent!!
Lady's Mantle
Mountain bluebells
Cranesbills
Summer phlox (the tall ones)
Bee balm (spreads wildly)
Gooseneck loosestrife (REALLY takes over)
Obedient flowers
Butterfly weed (also fall)-sunnier
Balloon flower
On into fall:
Cardinal flower
Aster (lots of sizes and colors)-sunniest part
Sage
Bostonian
Chrysanthemum-keep them cut back to 6" till July 4th-put in the most sunny part
