Driveway Boarder

Question
I live in southern California.  I'm looking for some kind of boardering plant to pretty up my driveway.  My criteria is as follows:  low maintenance (grows slow), grows year round, has color, stays fairly low to the ground, and grows within a 4" to 6" path.  We've tried Assaylum (sp?) but it crawled to 12" to 14" wide.  I'm looking at Abunda Bacopa but not familiar with it yet.  Any suggestion?  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hank,

The traditional driveway border is made of liriope. It's a small, pretty grassy plant that makes a nice itty-bitty hedge (it grows together into a "line"), that should be evergreen in your area, produces purple spiky flowers and requires thinning every 5-7 years at the most.

There are some dianthus that are very small that you might like. Many are in the 12" range, but if you look carefully, you'll find 2"-8" varieties in many colors.

Primroses would be pretty and stay small too.

4-6" is small. If you have the energy, putting in annual bedding plants would make a statement and they would stay small for you.

Good luck!
