QuestionI am looking for a website where I can type in a perinnal (such as coreopsis, sedum, spirea, dianthus, etc.) and I will get back simple details for caring for that specific kind of flower. I would like to be able to find out things like when/if to trim them and how much. What to do to keep them booming etc. I am making a book for my husband with different photos and descriptions because he loves to do the gardening but neither of us know what to do. So, I would like to be able to print out a page on each flower. If you don't know of a website- maybe you would have a book suggestion. Thanks.
AnswerCynthia,
WOW! That's the best tip I have heard from a fellow gardener in a long time!Your husband is getting a GREAT gift from you.AND helpful to say the least. Here are some really informative sites or books:
I use Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Perennials. It is a no nonsense stick to the facts kind of reference.Mine is several years old,but they publish one nearly every year or so I think. It's a pretty hefty book.Rodale's is more than likely got a website, but for some strange reason I have never looked.Try wwww.rodale.com or ww.rodaleperennials.com.
Here are some more you could try:Sources for a wide variety of perennials, grasses, shrubs, trees, evergreens and garden supplies:
Charley's Greenhouse(charleysgreenhouse.com)
Wayside Gardens,Whiteflower Farm,Bluestone Perennials,Shady Oaks Nursery,Musser Forests Nursery,Song Sparrow Perennial Farm,Forestfarm,Plant Delights Nursery,Busse Gardens,Jackson & Perkins,Smith & Hawkins,Gardeners Supply
Resources for bulbs and rhizomes: Dutch Gardens,McClure & Zimmerman,Van Dycks,Van Bourgondien,Roots & Rhizomes,The Daffodil Mart,Colorblends Tulips
Good Luck to you and keep up the good work!
