We were wondering if it is a good idea to prune astors. Would it hurt them?

Hi Mary,
Thanx for your question.  I would not recommend pruning asters at this time.  Asters can be pruned like mums.  Pruning can be done until July otherwise you risk removing too many blooming tips.  New England Asters can be pruned down several times until July.  Other asters should only be pruned once or twice and no more than 3 or 4 inches at a time.  I hope this helps.
