QuestionHi! I planted rose bushes in the spring. Each bush I bought had at least one beautiful, huge bloom on it so that I could see what the roses looked like. During the spring I got gorgeous huge flowers. I live in Arizona and our weather is right now ranging from high 90's to 114 degrees. My rose bushes look pathetic. I have pruned old growth as I should. They get a long watering, early morning, about twice a week. My bushes are now growing tiny roses and some of them are not full blooms. Do you think I am doing something wrong or is it just the summer heat that's effecting the blooms?
AnswerHi Angie,
Sorry for the delay- trying to get back into school mode.
Yes, the roses are suffering from heat stress. Cut them back about 6 inches and let them put back out. The fall bloom is usually the best bloom in my opinion.
You are doing everything correct and the plants are just responding to their current climate.
Good luck,
Jay
