julia child roses

Question
JC day of transplant
JC day of transplant

JC second day
JC second day
I bought my wife a mini rose bush for valentines day and have had success with it continuously blooming in my south facing front yard in a Miami suburb that receives plenty of sun. Due to this i decided to try my hand at bigger roses and picked a Julia child floribunda because yellow were my grandmothers favorite rose. Planting it was a bit of an ordeal as the spot I selected unbeknownst to me had the stub and root system of a small tree that had been removed. nonetheless i persevered removed the tree stub and roots and planted my JC. The attached pictures are from the day I planted it, yesterday, and today. In the first picture right after planting the roses and buds are slightly dropping but in the second taken today the droop is more prominent. I'm very new to all this and I've heard of some stems having weak necks so I'm not sure if this is commonplace or ok or if something needs to be done. Also, the ground has been treated with compost for a couple of weeks and i fed the bush miracle grow rose plant food.  Looking forward to your reply and help and it will be much appreciated.

Answer
Hi Joseph,

Good news!  She just needs more water and some time to get used to the new home.  JC only has week necks when it gets dry. Water every day or every other day during the summer.   However, it might be wind.   Since you are in Miami and the tropics were active the past few days; it might be wind damage. It will take a few days for it to re-adjust.

I like the fact that you tried more roses. For more rose info., go to www.ars.org

Hope that helps,

Jay
