QuestionI have roses, some of the leaves appear to have a shiney substance good this be an insect?
AnswerAphids and whiteflies will leave a sticky substance called honeydew. They excrete this shiny liquid after they have eaten. Honeydew will in time also attract a fungus mold which will turn your rose leaves black. The best way to get rid of honeydew is simply wash it off with water with a hose. The fact that you can see the sticky substance does not mean you will still have aphids or whiteflies on the rose so using an insecticide can be a waste.
