QuestionHello Lynnette. I have bought a 1 gallon "the Fairy" in April and placed her in a 16" faux terra pot . Unfortunately (what was I thinking?)I fertilized with liquid 15-30-15 before transplanting, she is not flowering, blooms are sporadic, smallish white in color, some leaves turn cream in color before falling off their stems. Buds dry up, brown and fall off. The bush is green and it sprawled quite a bit, we had an unusually cold and rainy spring, now is 91F-33C and dry as a bone. I live in Salt Lake City, UT USA and we are in zone 6. I hope I did not endangered her!!! Thank you so much for your advice.
AnswerYour rose is showing signs of stress. The Fairy is known for going into a snit easily. Cut the bush right back so that it gets all the yellow, brown and dead buds off. Prune it back even if you have to go back to make it a 12 inch wide bush. It will come back if you keep the soil damp but not wet and don't give anymore fertilizer this season. If possible, place the pot in an area where it gets no very hot afternoon sun just morning and late afternoon sun.
