Questionwe have two knockout rose trees about 4'. We received them from a friend to be transplanted in our garden. One has done beautifully and the other has not produced any leaves. After reading your explanation to another question we checked the roots of the non-producing tree and found that they are in fact brown on the outside and white in the middle. We have replanted it to try again. We live in Montgomery Alabama and this year it is very hot very early #today it is 98#. We have been watering every day which has been fine for the one tree so would assume, since they are planted near each other that it would be the same. Any suggestions--is our watering schedule appropriate? Thank you for your help.
AnswerBecause you are doing everything correctly for the rose, then it is the rose that is the problem. Sometimes a person just gets a poor rose or the rose may not have liked being moved. Most roses hate to be transplanted. I think it would be wise to give up on the Knock Out one that isn't responding to your care. Before you do, cut back a cane from the top and see if it is pale green inside. If there is any brown in the center even a pale brown colour, it is dying and you can't save it.
