QuestionJust planted a new knock out rose . The buds our very small and the under neath leaves are turning yellow . I use osmocoat fertilizer in the hole . I have done this before with out problems. Should I dig it up and move it with out the fertilizer or is there another problem ? we have had a lot of rain and wind in our area . Thank you , Tracy Jenkins
AnswerIf the Knock Out rose was in perfect condition when you bought it, then it could be the fertilizer in the hole. Just in case you did not know, Osmocote, releases the fertilizer when the temperature is about 70' Unless you garden in a hot climate, the changes of the soil getting to 70' is slim. Plus you don'y want the soil hot as roses love cool, damp roots. Try scattering the Osmocote around the base and when you water and the temperature is above 70', the rose will get enough fertilizer to last all season. Although they advertise that Knock Out roses are tough as steel, my experience with the many questions I get each week, is that they are quite sensitive to fertilizers and also sprays. If it is easy to do then I would move it to another hole or just clean pout the Osmocote from the hole it is in.
