Question
In spite of my plea and warning, a tree trimming contractors crew has destroyed my 40 year old Rose shrub. The trunk is about 6 inches across at the base. What should I charge my contractor to replace the shrub?

Nurseries that specialize in just roses, charge anywhere from $16 to $20 for a rose in a one gallon pot that has been grafted. A rose nursery that will grow you a certain rose can charge up to $45. However your situation is different and so you should be able to charge a lot more of your contractor for the pain and suffering.
The rose may not be dead. Next spring, there should be canes growing up from the base which will in time make a fuller bush.  And if you  have any of the canes  that were cut off, you can also make the same bush by growing the cuttings.
