QuestionHi there
I have two very tall roses at the front of my porch. With
winter coming we'd like to put up Christmas lights but these
canes extend over 9'. Should they be pruned back? Is it ok
to prune them back?
AnswerIf you get a very cold winter don't prune them back too hard. That way if you get a nasty cold snap, there will be some cane s left for any dieback. However if your winter just gets a little snow, then go ahead and cut them back to where you want them. Just make sure you wait until the roses are totally dormant and that will be when all the leaves have fallen off or look dead.
