transplanting knock out roses

Question
This is the 2nd year of growing my pink knock-out roses and I have discovered that they are too large and tall for the area in my front yard garden. I want to transplant them to my back yard. I live in Columbus, OH and live in zone 5. Are they still too young to transplant and when would be the best time to transplant in my area? Thank you.

Answer
You have two choices in your area. The first is that you wait until they have dropped all their leaves this fall, as this means they have gone dormant, and then move them. Or you can also transplant them in the spring before they start to leaf out as they will still be dormant from the fall. If you move them, now don't forget to protect them by placing extra mulch or soil around the base to protect the roots from a nasty winter cold snap.
