QuestionMy Lady Banks rose is probably 7 years old and has performed beautifully but I have noticed that it has lost all of its leaves. The stems are still green. I live in SC where it has really been hot but my other Lady Banks are doining okay. What is wrong with it?
AnswerYour rose has re-acted to the hot weather. Even though you honestly thought you had given the rose lots of water, I would suspect that the water didn't go deep enough. Take a trowel and dig down near the rose and see if the soil is damp to about 8 inches deep. If it isn't then that is the problem. Water the rose every day for a week and give it at least 5 gallons of water that is about one bucket full of water. To save itself, the rose has let go of the leaves because it cannot supply enough water to them. This is very common when temperatures get hot. The rose is fine and will bounce back when the weather turns cooler as roses can re-grow three sets of new leaves without any problems to them. Don't give it any fertilizer as the rose is under stress.
