QuestionHi.Can you tell me the best time of year to take rose cuttings in central England? Gary
AnswerThere are two times of the year to take rose cuttings. One is in the fall where you can simply make a trench and plant them in and wait until next spring to see them grow. Or when they are actively growing after blooming. Just take the cuttings from the end of a cane that has flowered, as this will be where the greatest vigour will be. The rose will normally push out new growth in this area and so you have the greatest success of growing.. Take at leaser 6 as some make not strike. It will all depend on the vigour of the rose you are taking cuttings from. Frail growers tend to not strike easily.
