QuestionLast year I pruned this rose bush and am afraid I pruned the main stalk to on the bushmuch. This year all there is are suckers growing wild. The main stalk appears to be dead. Can I save this rose bush and, if so, what should I do. We live in northwest Georgia and right now it is in the ninety. Afraid I will loose the bush if I prune the suckers off now, Please help
AnswerYou are right in that you did cut the rose too hard. You can't save the rose because it has died and the understock, which is a wild rose, has taken over. Best to buy another My. Lincoln and then only prune him back no lower than 20 inches. Mr. Lincoln actually is a very tall rose so be prepared when you plant him that he will be about 6 feet if you garden in a warm climate. In a cold climate about 3 feet tall.
