white spots and holes on rose bush leaves

Question
I live in central new york(syracuse area). My rose bush leaves have white spots and holes in the leaves.a few of my rose bushes have holes in every leaf on them and there are no buds what so ever.other bushes have buds with not so many holes in the leaves, but they do have the white spots and holes.these bushes were given to me last july-august and they were perfectly fine then, please help i dont want to lose these bushes

Answer
The white spots are mildew on your roses. This is a fungus which burns the rose leaves and  so kills the area it is in. You could try to spray daily with 1 tablespoon of baking soda to 2 quarts of water until there is no sign of white spots. Or any rose fungicide for mildew will help get rid of it for you. Mildew is cause by certain weather conditions such as warm days and cool nights. Some roses are more prone to this problem so if you got it this year, just keep an eye open for it next spring as it may easily return.
