QuestionI live in southwestern Pennsylvania and this is the first time my roses have been effected, and I belive by leaf miners. The leaves are still intact, but all the green is gone and the leaves are now transparent. Is this leaf miners, and if so, how do I treat my roses? My holly were effected last year and we treated them again this year.
Thank you,
Lorelei
AnswerLeaf miners are very easy to identify as they make thin pale green or yellow lines on a leaf. They cause this look because they tunnel between the underneath of the leaf and the top of the leaf. That is all you usually see. I think you have the rose your rose has a pest called a rose slug. The rose slug is a sawfly that belongs to the hymenoptera family. The larvae feed on the underside of the rose leaves. When the larvae are small they usually 搘indowpane?the leaves by eating only the bottom layers of leaf tissue. As they get bigger they eat right through the leaf so that only a skeleton is left. regardless of which insect you have any rose insecticide will get rid of them. Make sure you also spray all around the base of the rose bush to get rid of any that are sleeping there.
