Question
Betsys's rose
I've been told that this rose is 100 years old, transplanted in 1964. We reside in the Berkshires, MA, zone 4. The 97 year old resident recently passed away and I'm desperate to know what type of rose this is. The fragrance is unbelievable! I appreciate your assistance. Elizabeth
AnswerThe name of your rose is Harison's Yellow and is classed as a Pimpinellifolia. It was bred by a Mr. Folliot Harison in 1824 and introduced on the market in 1825. This rose requires no care at all and only needs water and a little fertilizer at the start of the spring growth. It does have a tendency to make suckers so if you want to make another one, just cut one of the suckers and plant it in a pot or even plant it in the ground, water it well and you will have another Harison's Yellow rose.
