QuestionI have lost three rose bushes due to webs forming on the canes. I have tried the sprays recommended but nothing seems to help. Is there an alternative solution?
Answer
There is a tiny little insect called a spidermite which lives under the leaves of roses and sucks the sap out of the leaves. The leaves then look dry and speckled. I have enclosed a photo of spidermites on a rose bush and what they look like look. These tiny insects hate to be wet and sometimes just spraying the rose with water and making sure the rose bush isn't dry for a few weeks, will kill them. If not then use a miticide as per instructions on the bottle. To make sure you have these very tiny mites, shake a leaf over a piece of white paper and you should see tiny specks on it.
