Question
I would like a white rose to grow along a fence with trellis at the top to help provide some security. I like White Cloud,for its scent and abundance of flowers. Please can you tell me whether it has many thorns? The more the better for my purpose!

White Cloud is a really good rose with as you said, good fragrance, plus good disease resistance.It doesn't have what I would call, nasty thorns, but more like many bristles along the canes sort of like a hair brush. This can  cause scratching but won't deter a human from getting through it. Rugosa roses are the best for making sure your property isn't appealing to strangers, children or dogs. They are so vicious you always know when something or someone has tangled with them by the cries of agony.
