QuestionOur rose bush died and we threw the main root away. Then a side rose bush came up about 6" away from the originsal root area. We now have 4-5' stems but no signs of any buds. Should we just dig up the whole thing......and buy a new rose bush next year?
AnswerMost roses are budded onto what is called an understock. This understock is usually a wild rose. When the top rose dies quite often the under rose starts to grow. It isn't an attractive rose and is best dug up and replaced with a beautiful modern one.
