Black Spots

Question
I have a bed of yellow carpet roses that are infected with black spots.  I have strip all the leaves and have sprayed with a fungal spray every 7 days with no luck.  The new leaves are spotted.  Is there any way of getting this under control? I live in a zone 5 area, Kansas.  Thank you Ann

Answer
Your fungal spray should have got the problem under control, but carpet roses are known to get black spot problems so that makes it harder to get rid of the problem. Plus the spores are floating around in the air and will land on the leaves and start the problem all over again. It sounds as if conditions in your area have become ideal for the disease. When you spray don't forget to also spray all around the base of the rose bush as that is where many of the spores will be so it pays to get rid of them with the spray. All I can suggest is that you are doing the best thing so keep spraying just make sure you spray the ground too. Dry, summer heat always puts roses under stress and makes fungal diseases harder to keep under control. It won't kill your roses as they will replace the fallen ones.
