shrub rose knock out rose tree

Question
Hi...my dad gave me a knock out shrub rose tree from his garden..it bloomed for the past 2 years..My dad was going to do some renovations in his back yard and gave me the rose tree along with some other rose plants..The plants have bloomed beautifully however; the rose tree did not bloom at all..It has some leaves that came out but it appears quite dry and lifeless...Is there any way we can revive this beautiful rose tree?

Answer
Rose trees can be made by growing a rugosa rose as the tall stem and then grafting a modern rose on the top. It appears that your tree rose went into stress when it was transplanted. There really is nothing you can do until the rose settles into the new area and when it does it will start to grow normally again. I would give it liquid fish fertilizer instead of a chemical one. Liquid fish is a gentle fertilizer which should help the roots adjust to the new surroundings without burning them. If the weather is hot that will also make it go under stress. I am sure it will perk up when the weather is cool towards the fall.
