Mini Rose Disease

Question
Hello Lynnette

A while ago, I asked you about my roses and their continuous falling leaves. You told me there might be some spiders and keeping the leaves wet will make the spiders to go away. I did it, however falling leaves pace have slowed down but not vanished completely. I see small nets and recently very small dots (seems to be spiders egg!) appear on the back of young leaves and after a while they crumple and then fall down. Since, I live in Japan and reading Kanji is difficult I asked for a suitable pesticide according to the symptoms. But The leaves are still falling and as described I have a new problem! That would be great if you could help me again.

Thanks,

Answer
You still have the spider mites as they are very difficult to get rid of. The nets and the eggs are definitely spider mites. However they don't like water and prefer a dry condition to live in. To get rid of them you have to wash your mini rose daily and that will encourage them to go away. But the leaves have to be well soaked with water as that drowns the mites. Place the pot in a plastic bag and then tie it tightly at the base of the rose so the water won't get into the pot. Then place it under a tap and wash the whole plant well. Don't shake the water off just let the rose sit in the sink. Try this for 5 days and see if that makes a difference, it usually gets rid of the tiny mites that a spray can't. But really washing off the rose leaves and the stems is the secret.
