Question
I just planted my tree rose and love it. Im in zone 4 what should I do for winter protection? Also how often should I fertilize and what is the best to use. Any other info to make this a beautiful healthy tree would be great. Thanks a bunch
AnswerIn your zone this tree will have to be protected very well. Knock Out roses are hardy but no rose is very hardy when it sits up in the air. The best way is to grow the rose is in a pot and then place it in an unheated garage for the winter. I honestly don't think it will survive the winter no matter how you protect it. Any slow release rose fertilizer such as Osmocote 14-14-14 make life much easier as you don't need to fertilize the rose again as Osmocote is good for 4 months. Just sprinkle some all around the base of the rose or on the top of the container.
