Non-Blooming Rose Bush

Question
I have a 9 year old pink rose bush.  It bloomed abundantly in April and May.  I was told to mix egg shells and coffee grounds into the dirt around the base.  I did and it quit blooming!  I live near Las Vegas, Nevada and we have a high alkaline soil and lots of "stuff" in the water, iron, etc.

Answer
Egg shells mainly contain lime and coffee ground contain nitrogen and a little phosphorous the latter is what flowers need to make blooms so they wouldn't stop the roses from blooming. Roses bloom in two main flushes. One in early summer and another in the middle of summer. Your rose may be waiting to make flower buds and will bloom again if it is a repeat flowering type of roses. If it is a once bloomer then that is all the flowers it will make for this year.
