QuestionI have had a rose bush for about 10-12 years. About four years ago, the bush "died off" in the summer and I cut it completely down to the ground. It did not come back at all the next year and was completely gone. The following year, it started to grow again to my surprise. It has now been growing 3 years now, getting bigger every year, but has not bloomed since it started growing again. This was an ever-blooming yellow rose bush that used to bloom all season, into the frost. What can I do to get it to bloom again?
AnswerMost roses are budded onto another hardy rose so I would assume that your rose was also budded. If you cut it way down then it may have died over the winter and it is the understock that is growing back. You could try giving it some tomato fertilizer as this has a high amount of the fertilizer that a rose needs to make it bloom. Just give the same amount as for a mature tomato plant. However if still hasn't bloomed, I would replace the rose.
